In southern Mexico, there is a legend about a girl named Pepita. She had no gift to bring to Jesus at the Christmas Eve service. Her cousin Pedro said to cheer her up, “I’m sure that even the smallest gift, given by someone who loves him, will make Jesus happy.” So, Pepita gathered a handful of weeds to lay at the altar. When she did, the bouquet of weeds burst into red flowers. From then on, poinsettias are known as the “Flower of the Holy Night. “ The narration explores God’s Light contrasted with the world’s darkness, and how the Holy Light of Jesus will never be quenched.
Mark your calendar and plan to enjoy an inspiring evening of music to set your heart and soul on the true wonder of Christmas. Singers from the surrounding community will share their gift of music to put Christ at the center stage of our season and our hearts.
St. John’s Altar guild is making plans to decorate the sanctuary with these special flowers. The 6-inch, $16-plants from K&W Greenery can be requested with order sheets on the Ministry Table. Poinsettias can be dedicated in memory or in honor of family and friends, which will be listed in the Christmas Eve bulletin.
All orders must be in by Sunday, December 1. Let’s fill the sanctuary to celebrate the birth of Jesus on this “Holy Night.”
