We believe that Holy Scripture is inspired by God, which literally means that it is “God-breathed.” The words were written by faithful worshippers of the one true God, under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, and accepted widely by the Church at large. This is why they have endured for thousands of years and continue to be cherished by billions of people.
The words of Holy Scripture offer us guidance and comfort. They remind us of God’s great love for us. They nourish our souls so we can live our best. It’s good for us to have God’s word on our hearts and minds. Maybe you have a favorite Bible verse that you know by heart and that speaks right to your soul.
For 28 days we’ll challenge each other to read and write God’s word.
To do this together, we’ve invited 28 members of St. John’s to share a favorite Bible verse with us.
The “Writing God’s Word” Challenge is for everyone and will take place from Sunday, August 15, through Saturday, September 11.
· Make your commitment online or at the Ministry Table.
· Access a 28-Day Calendar of favorite Bible Verses or pick one up at the Ministry Table.
· Look up and read the verse for the day in your Bible. Consider underlining it or highlighting it. Read the verses around it. See if your Bible offers any study notes about that verse.
· Write the words of that Bible verse out by hand. Yes, by hand. You could write them in a journal or on a piece of paper. You could write them on a notecard and put that notecard somewhere to see it again – on a mirror or door. You could also keep that notecard in your Bible to find it later.
Our goal is to know the beauty of God’s word for our lives today and to experiment with a regular practice that helps us live a more centered life. Writing Bible verses will help to put God’s word on our hearts and minds.
